What Is Seasonal Sewer Billing?
Seasonal sewer billing is a billing method developed to provide customers that do not have two or more water meters plumbed into their home, such as, a water meter that meters gallons of water used inside the house, and a separate water meter that meters water used outdoors and therefore the water used does not go into the city sewer system. This metering method provides the best possible break on sewer billing costs for outside water usage.
The billing method takes the water consumption used in the colder months (November – April) as the basis for billing sewer charges during the warmer months (May – October). Seasonal Sewer Billing is meant to prevent customers from paying sewer charges for warm weather purposes such as watering lawns, washing cars, landscaping, gardening, or filling pools.
Who is Eligible For Seasonal Sewer Billing?
Residential customers with 12 months of water usage history are automatically placed on Seasonal Sewer Billing. For customers that do not have 12 months of water usage history the seasonal sewer average will be set to 5,400 gallons.
• To establish the sewer average, meter readings from November through April will be averaged. The average is then used to bill sewer charges for May, June, July, August, September, and October.
Note: If there is zero consumption in the month(s) November through April, usage is not included in the average calculation.
• If the metered water usage is less than the sewer average, then the metered usage will be billed. If the sewer average is lower than the metered usage, then the sewer average will be billed. This method ensures that customers are billed for the lowest sewer usage amount.
Customers that do not qualify for Seasonal Sewer Billing
• Industrial and Commercial Customers do not qualify for this billing method.
• Residential customers with plumbed-in; second meter, outside water meter, sprinkler or irrigation meter, and customers with; apartment, suites, or ½ addresses are not eligible for Seasonal Sewer Billing. These customers will be billed, each month, based on the meter reading(s) of the meter(s).
